UPDATE:
The State of Emergency is still in effect, but travel conditions are improving, and a TRAVEL ADVISORY has been issued. Travel is allowed, but drivers must remain alert for damaged and water covered roadways.
Some City streets and roads throughout the County will remain closed. Citizens are asked to not go through bypasses or barricades. These are put in placed for the safety of the citizens.
A shelter remains open at the Gibson Elementary School on Newton Ave. in Norwich for any residents who need a place to stay because of damage to their home.
The New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) will be providing dry ice at the Norwich Fire Station, 31 East Main Street. To make arrangements to receive dry ice, call the Norwich Fire Department at 334-3411.
The fire department, with assistance from other units outside Chenango County, have begun pumping out basements in the affected areas. Those who need their basements pumped out should also call the Fire Department at 334-3411 to be put on a list.
Citizens are urged not to dial 911 to determine routes of travel, or to inquire if or when the roadways are open. Stay tuned to your local news stations for road condition and emergency procedural updates.
