Certain he would have no problem breaking the ice at his 30th high school reunion this weekend, 1976 Norwich graduate Wayne Wright was in good spirits following a long trek that gave him much to talk about.

"It was definitely harder than I thought it would be," Wright said, sitting seemingly unphased in his parents’ kitchen after cycling for two-and-a-half days from New York City to Norwich, his longest ride to date.

Mary Lou Monahan, a 1976 classmate and neighbor to Wright’s parents, George and Martha, said she was awaiting his arrival in awe.

"It shocks me," said Mary Lou Monahan. "It’s quite an achievement – it’s really neat to think he’s going to be doing this."

Wright, now a software developer for Investment Technology Group in Manhattan, set out on his bike Wednesday morning at 7 a.m., and arrived in Norwich with little trouble at around 3:35 p.m., Friday.

His parents and Monahan, along with his sister Susan Dreyer and classmate Marilyn Oliver, all of Norwich, greeted him with smiles and cheers as he rode in safely from the rain.
