The start of a new school year means more than students beginning classes. As students return to school, many safety concerns must be addressed by the public. The Norwich City Police Department would like to remind all motorists that school begins on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
When school starts this fall, there are several concerns people should be aware of, the police department said.
“Children will be walking to school or waiting for school buses early in the morning. This is also the same time of day that folks will be rushing to work,” Assistant Chief Van Miles said.
The city PD recommends people head to work a little earlier and hopefully avoid the temptation to make up for lost time on the road. The state-wide school zone speed limit is 15 mph and should be strictly followed, especially during the beginning and end of school hours.
