NORWICH – Eric Wright, charged with criminal possession of property, appeared in county court Aug. 28 before the Judge Howard Sullivan and without notice dismissed his public defense attorney. Wright then told the judge he wished to represent himself in court.
Judge Sullivan ordered the court to reconvene the following week to discuss Wright’s competence to defend himself and to give him time to consider his position fully. Wright’s attorney, public defender Alan E. Gordon, admitted after the proceedings that he “had no idea” that Wright was going to dismiss him.
