GREENE – Harpursville gambled unwisely, and the house – Greene – raked in the yards and racked up the points

In nearly a repeat performance of last year’s drubbing of Harpursville, Greene retained its unblemished record winning its Section IV Class C division opener.

“We talked about the importance of winning our first division game, and we know we have a war coming up with Unatego next week,” said Greene coach Tim Paske.

In just over half a game, Greene senior fullback Keith Savory piled up 143 yards on eight carries. Harpursville stacked the line of scrimmage putting eight and nine guys up tight, and once Savory cleared the initial wall of defenders, he was home free. “We worked on a scheme to attack their defense, and Keith went almost untouched on his runs,” Paske said. “Harpursville took a risk on defense and was burned.”

Savory had scoring runs of 5 and 52 yards in the first quarter sandwiched around Corey Breck’s 65-yard TD strike to receiver Justin Van Wert. Savory had a 65-yard TD run in the second quarter, and Greene led 39-0 at halftime.
