SHERBURNE – Frontier Communications has announced there will be layoffs at the repair department in the Sherburne call center. Officials could not say how many layoffs will be necessary, but they will begin in the first half of 2007.
According to Karen Miller, Frontier’s communications manager, the layoffs are part of a call center restructuring. Frontier’s new operations will center around decreasing their call centers and instituting a new work-at-home program. Miller said the work-at-home program was tried out at another plant, and due to its success there, it is being implemented nation wide. Frontier plans to go from 14 nation wide calling centers, to only three or four, supported by the work-at-home program. One of the call centers will be a new facility, opening in Deland, Fla. The repair jobs from the Sherburne office will be transferred to the new location.
