LAKELAND – Greene’s bid at a state title ended Saturday afternoon at Lakeland in the Class A quarterfinals.
Melissa Gonzalez, a member of the U.S. Under-17 national team, scored three second-half goals spurring her club to a 5-1 triumph over the Trojans (15-4).
It was the most goals allowed by Greene this season in a contest, eclipsing the three it gave up to Section IV Class B champion Maine-Endwell, who moved onto the Class B semifinals beating Rye. “The kids played pretty well, unfortunately the final score does not reflect that,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin.
Holly Davis scored for Greene in the final 5 1/2 minutes of the game.
