Oneida 56, Oxford 40

NORWICH – Oneida played from the front most of the way, a stark contrast from its loss to Norwich Saturday.

The Indians held Oxford to one basket in the second quarter, and extended a six-point halftime lead to 18 in the third stanza to capture the consolation game of the Tom Schwan Memorial/Mang Insurance consolation game Tuesday.

Jim Figueroa came off the bench to score eight points in the third quarter, and a 10-2 run late in the stanza extended a 10-point advantage to a comfortable margin. “With loose balls, offensive rebounds, and back-door cuts, we seemed to be a step behind them,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis. “They’re a solid club, and they move well without the ball.”

All-tournament selection Ryan Kramer had 12 points for Oneida and Figueroa 10 to lead a balanced scoring effort.

The Blackhawks led 11-10 after one period, and scored the first basket of the second quarter, a Wes Tynan jumper, with 7:18 left in the half upping the margin to three. Oneida finished the quarter on a 9-0 run. “It was a big turnaround in the second quarter,” Davis said. “I thought we played a really good first quarter, and we controlled tempo.”

Scott Seiler and Ben Burdick scored 13 points apiece to lead the Blackhawks (0-2).
