NORWICH – The murder retrial of Peter M. Wlasiuk will not begin until May, at the earliest. Defense attorney Randel Scharf asked for an extension of at least 90 days Friday so he could arrange his own experts to review the scientific evidence in the case.
Wlasuik, 41, was found guilty of 2nd degree murder and given the maximum sentence of 25 years to life for allegedly murdering his wife Patricia and then staging a vehicle accident at Guilford Lake to cover it up in 2002. The New York Supreme Court of Appeals overturned the guilty verdict in Wlasiuk’s first trial in August. Shortly thereafter, Judge Howard Sullivan recused himself from presiding over the second trial.
