S-E 9, Sauquoit Valley 8 (9 innings)

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville staged a seventh-inning rally to force extra innings, and scored in the bottom of the ninth for its first win over Sauquoit Valley since joining the Center State Conference five years ago.

“This is a great win for us against a tough division opponent,” said S-E coach Scott Fitzpatrick, who added that Sauquoit Valley along with Canastota have been measuring sticks for their league.

Katie Graham and Dana Hodge singled to start the seventh, and Sam Crandall walked to load the bases. Back-to-back RBI groundouts by Megan Record and Bree Neisinger pulled S-E within one, and Crandall scored on a passed ball.

Hodge scored the game-winner in the ninth on a infield grounder.

Hodge led her club with three hits, while Kate Fitzpatrick, Graham and Lindsay Hodges had two hits apiece. Record and Fitzpatrick led with two ribbies.

S-E (4-3) plays Mt. Markham today.
