CHENANGO COUNTY – Stepping away from the traditional work site setting, one newly-created program is designed to aid the community as well as the individuals who offer time to help clean up Chenango County.
Those facing financial hardships often find the support needed through the local Social Services department. One aspect of gaining the financial aid individuals are looking for in turn will provide quality job skills and on the job training for recipients.
Supervisor of Social Services’ employment unit Misty Davis has presented a way for individuals to get a variety of job training as well as aid community efforts to make Chenango County a cleaner place to reside.
The strictly volunteer program, called “Beautify Chenango County,” is composed of six individuals eager to volunteer to travel to various towns or villages to clean areas in need of attention. Letters were the initial step to seeing how many towns and villages would want the volunteer service to come in and do odd jobs such as raking, painting, cleaning, planting and more.
