NORWICH – Lobster – with a side of politics – will be served up at the Chenango Republican Committee’s fundraiser of the year. The 2007 Lobersterfest is set for noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 22 at the Canasawacta Country Club.
For over 30 years, Lobsterfest has been a tradition in Chenango County, and for the last 12 years, the republican committee has been sponsoring the event.
“Lobsterfest is the most non-political, political event in the county,” Committee Chairman Thomas Morrone said, explaining that politicians from both sides of the aisle usually attend the event. According to Morrone, already committed to attending the event are Senator Thomas Libous, Senator James Seward, Assemblyman Clifford Crouch, Assemblyman Gary Finch and Assemblyman Peter Lopez. Several other elected officials have been invited and are likely to be at the event.
“A lot of people come to support the republican committee, but it’s also a good opportunity to meet with your legislators and talk on a casual basis,” Morrone said. “We don’t do solicitations and we don’t do other fund raisers.” Between 500 and 600 people from several different counties, including Broome, Tioga, Cortland and Otsego, are expected to attend the event.
