UV buries Unatego with second-half surge

Boys’ Soccer

Unadilla Valley 8, Unatego 3

OTEGO – Unadilla Valley scored six unanswered goals in the second half, and senior Raffi Perry racked up a school-record five of those tallies in a comeback win for the Storm Monday.

The Storm trailed 3-2 at the break, but tied the game just four minutes into the second session on Todd Wilcox’s goal. Perry put in the goal-ahead goal 10 minutes later, and it was off to the races. “They kept trying to pull us offsides , but we were putting through balls onside and beating them to the ball,” said UV coach Matt Osborne. “They cut angles well, but we had maybe 15 to 20 breakaways. That’s how we scored most of our goals.”

It was an eye-opening start for the Storm, who Osborne admitted his team did not play well in a close win over Afton last week. “We had a gut check at halftime and a good conversation about playing with pride and more bounce in our step,” he said. “We stepped up and played to our capability.”
