Norwich 4, Owego 3
NORWICH – Norwich assured itself a winning record this season finishing out its home campaign with a win over Owego Wednesday.
With five matches already completed and Norwich leading 3-2 overall, the third doubles team of Reva Seager and Katie Orioli wrapped up the victory with a straight sets win.
It was a season sweep for Norwich over Owego, and although this match had a closer final than the first meeting (a 5-2 NHS win), the Tornado won more convincingly, said head coach John Stewart. “We really improved upon our scores over last time,” he said. “We won three super tiebreakers last time (out of our five points), and tonight all of our wins came in straight sets.”
Jen Zieno and Sophie Stewart were winners at singles, and first doubles partners Krissie Collier and Christina Decker added a win. Norwich improved to 7-4 with a season-ending date at Maine-Endwell Friday. “It looks like we’re going to replicate what we did last year,” Stewart said. “As young as we are in some spots, I would not have predicted that. I thought a .500 season would be a huge success, so a winning season is reaching beyond what I thought we were capable of.”
