Unadilla Valley 3, Oxford 1

OXFORD – Sarah Hutchinson headed in a crossing pass from Jessica Lorence at the 23-minute mark to break a 1-1 tie and key UV’s win at Oxford Tuesday.

The Blackhawks, looking for the upset, tied the game when Ashlee Farwell put away a pass from Felicia Tynan at 19 minutes.

UV added insurance when Catherine Thomas scored in the second half. “UV did a nice job going to the ball and seemed to win most of the 50-50 balls,” said Oxford coach Kathleen Cragle. “We’re not taking enough shots. We had opportunities, but were holding the ball too long.”

GREENE – Greene coach Randy Smith had nothing but lofty praise for Sidney after a shutout loss Tuesday.

“It was one of those old-fashioned whippings,” Smith said. “They were good all over the field and we had nothing today. Unadilla Valley was good, but Sidney is the best team we’ve played this year.”

Danielle Martindale scored the first goal, and sophomore Danielle Gravel had back-to-back goals 50 seconds apart in the final seven minutes of the first half on her way to a hat trick.

Greene (9-5) plays at Unadilla Valley Friday.
