UV-Edmeston 27, Southern Springs 7
NEW BERLIN – Jordan Williams didn’t play like a third-string quarterback, and he’ll like man the starting QB spot the rest of the season after the Storm evened their log Saturday afternoon against Southern Springs.
With UV-E’s top two signal-callers Mason Wyman and Josh Wright out of the lineup with injuries – Wright lost for the season, in fact – Williams had two TD runs and returned the opening kickoff 72 yards to put his team on the board. It was a big improvement for Williams, who struggled as the season-opening starter against B-G. “We’ve been working (Williams) in during practice ‘just in case,’” said UV-E coach Jack Loeffler. “He’s had some success at other positions this season, so I think that helped him.”
Tom Giordano served as the workhorse running back finishing with 94 yards on the ground and a nine-yard TD run in the third quarter. Matt Harrington and Zach Rifanburg led a UV defense that allowed just 52 yards rushing combining for 12 tackles. “Our confidence is growing each week,” Loeffler said. “We’re stepping on the field expecting to win, not hoping that we’ll win.”
UV-E (3-3) plays at Harpursville Saturday afternoon.
