GEORGETOWN – The first inn opened in Georgetown in the early 1800s, and since then, an operational inn has been a part of the atmosphere of this small town, a part of which lies in the far northwestern corner of Chenango County. That, said new owner Nancy Strobel, is one of the reasons buying and running the Georgetown Inn was so important to her.
“This is an inn that has been continuously run since 1847. For it to stop being a function of this town, that’s just not right,” Nancy said.
As local residents for many years, Nancy and her husband Garth used to be frequent customers at the inn, but according to Nancy, irregular hours and declining quality made the couple stop going. Nancy said when she saw the ‘for sale’ sign, the idea of buying the inn quickly went from a thought to a reality.
Nancy explained that she and her husband took the time to renovate and clean up the business. The Strobels painted, insulated, bought new equipment and cleaned the restaurant from top to bottom.
