NORWICH – Norwich-based Unison Industries, a manufacturing subsidiary of the General Electric Company, has been quietly increasing its workforce this year and, just recently, acquired two additional product lines.
Seventeen employees have come on board since January, and approximately seven more are anticipated by year’s end. The company’s roster will climb to 302 employees.
Earlier this fall, Unison’s headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla. began to move product lines to Norwich for the manufacture of jet engine speed sensors. The move is still in transition, and could result in a half dozen more jobs in the future.
“They’re moving product lines here, but the product lines we have are also growing. That’s the other piece of good news,” Product Line Manager Mike Weaver said Wednesday.
Unison Industries is a world leader in the design and manufacture of electrical components, sensors, and systems for aircraft, industrial, marine, and space uses. Its products spread across a variety of markets including the commercial aircraft, general aviation, space, industrial, and defense markets. The 160,000 square foot plant located on state Route 12 South has produced ignition systems components for more than 40 years.
