OXFORD– The ball has been slowly rolling towards the Oxford Village Police Department’s goal of acquiring another police vehicle, and now it seems, they may be on the verge of getting it.

The department has received a state grant for $25,000, which was lobbied for by Senator Thomas W. Libous, R-Binghamton.

“At first we were looking at getting a Chevy Tahoe, but the cost was getting into the thirty thousand range, and the village thought that was too much of a burden on the taxpayer. The current vehicle we are looking at is a Dodge Durango, four by four, which runs about $21,050 plus equipment costs,” said Oxford Police Chief Richard Nolan.

After the cost of installing a protection cage and computer system, the total will rise slightly above the $25,000 grant.
