B-G 48, Oxford 38

OXFORD – B-G saw its 15-point halftime lead dwindle to six in the fourth quarter, but had a big shot from Kim Hart and free throws late from Dani Conway to seal a Midstate Athletic Conference win Saturday.

With under four minutes to play and the 30-second clock under five seconds, Hart hit a three ball from the top of the key to stem an Oxford rally and push the lead back to double digits. Conway, meanwhile, made 4-for-4 from the foul line over the last 20 seconds for the final margin.

“Defensively, I thought we did a good job with our man-to-man and trap,” said Oxford coach Brad Aldrich. “We mixed the defenses and held them about the best we could expect to do.”

Oxford was hampered by poor shooting from the field making just 16-for-56 (29 percent). B-G took advantage of those misfires early in the third quarter scoring six quick points – two layups by Conway sandwiched around Mariah Schaeffer’s short jumper. Conway finished with 21 points and Schaeffer scored 11.

Baskets in the fourth by the Blackhawks’ Hollyann Branham, Chantel Crandall, Haley Witchella trimmed that margin, and Witchella’s free throw with 21 seconds left made it 44-38.

Branham had 12 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Witchella added nine points, 12 rebounds, and four blocked shots. Felicia Tynan also scored nine points.
