Cooperstown 65, Sherburne-Earlville 56
SHERBURNE – State-ranked Cooperstown held on in the fourth quarter against a charging Sherburne-Earlville club to maintain its unbeaten record Monday night.
Katie Cring went 6-for-9 from the foul line in the last quarter to preserve the advantage. The Redskins led by 13 entering the fourth, and S-E had the game as close as six with a minute to play. “We did everything right except make shots,” said S-E coach Jeff Barry. “They overmatched us on the offensive glass in the first half. We were in position to rebound, but they have girls that are six-three and six-one, and they finish on the glass.”
Samantha Fox and Jen Wehner, the two big girls Barry referred to, combined for 14 points in the second quarter to give their club a 10-point halftime lead.
S-E (13-3) finished 21-for-72 from the field and just 9-for-20 from the foul line. Megan Record scored 15 in the loss and Courtney Kurtz added nine points.
