S-E 54, Canastota 53
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville’s uncanny late-game magic reared itself one more time Friday evening.
Garrett Porack grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed free throw from Ethan Sconzo, and sunk a short baseline jumper with eight seconds left for the one-point margin of victory over the Raiders.
Canastota led most of the game and nearly avenged a 24-point loss to S-E (11-9) on its home floor last month. “Canastota didn’t look like a team playing out its season; they showed a lot of character tonight,” said Marauders coach Kevin Vibbard.
Porack, who sat much of the second half with foul trouble, led S-E’s balanced scoring with 12 points. Brett Nelson had 10 and Sean Boise scored nine. The victory was the 10th this season for a Marauders by six points or less. “The kids really have learned how to win,” Vibbard said. “They are willing to do what it takes at the end to win.”
S-E will learn of its sectional seeding and matchup this week in the Section III playoffs.
