NORWICH – The swearing-in of a new firefighter at Tuesday night’s meeting of the Norwich Common Council created a father-son firefighting legacy for one family.
Daryl R. Prindle of Norwich was sworn in as a full-time firefighter Tuesday to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of firefighter Gary Cate. Cate was active in the department for 43 years.
Daryl’s father, Walter Prindle, was a firefighter before him. Prindle, who is now retired, watched as Police and Fire Chief Joseph Angelino swore Daryl in. Generally the Fire Chief also presents new firefighters with their shield, however Tuesday, the city saw a father to son appointment, as Walter passed his shield on to Daryl.
