BAINBRIDGE – B-G averted a quarterfinals upset bid by the lower-seeded Indians pulling away in the fourth quarter Saturday evening.
“This was a good game for us and a battle until about the final four minutes,” said B-G coach Bob Conway. “I thought our defense took over and Ellery Gager played extremely well in the defensive post. That allowed our forwards to get wider in our zone and our guards extended to put more pressure on the ball outside the lane.”
The result led to contested shots and two 30-second violations on the Indians, who were coming off a sectional win over Oxford earlier in the week.
Dani Conway had 23 points, 17 rebounds, and six assists for the Bobcats (18-2), and Mariah Schaeffer finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Gager plucked nine boards to go with her eight points.
B-G trailed 12-4 early, but finished the stanza on a 12-0 run, and extended that spurt to 18-2 over the early portion of the second quarter. “We had some nervous turnovers early, and it just took a while to settle down,” Conway said.
B-G plays Tioga Wednesday in the Class C semifinals at a neutral site.
