NEW BERLIN – Harpursville and B-G/Afton claimed narrow victories at Unadilla Valley Thursday afternoon in windy conditions.
The Bears, who were without top competitors Dustin Ross, Bethany Norris and Katie Holowacz, still nearly took home wins in both contests, and outdistanced the host Storm in the girls’ competition by two points (69-67). “They are a strong team, and they have so many kids participating,” said UV coach Bill Holdrege of B-G/A. “It pays off for them.”
Sarah Hutchinson grabbed wins for UV in the 400 meters and triple jump, while Alexis Powers was a double winner in the 1500- and 3000-meter races.
Harpursville used its speed in the sprint events to maintain a seven-point edge over B-GA. Chris McFee swept the discus and shot put for the Bears.
