SOUTH OTSELIC – This weekend, the Otselic Valley High School will stage a production of the comedic musical “Pirates of Penzance.”

The play, directed by music teacher Winnie Sortman, is a story about the obligation of duty, but the cast of familiar faces and new talent ensures the comedic nature of the play will keep you laughing throughout the two acts.

The play begins at a pirate celebration. The Pirates of Penzance, an unsuccessful lot of crooks, are celebrating Frederic’s (played by Daniel Larkin) 21 birthday, and subsequently the end of his apprenticeship with the pirates. As a child, Frederic was mistakenly thrown in with the lot when his nurse maid Ruth (played by Amber Wood) mishears her master. Because she is hard of hearing, she apprentices the young lad to a pirate instead of to a ship’s pilot.
