MORRIS – Chris Olin worked out of an eighth-inning jam thanks to a Morris baserunning miscue to earn the win in the Vikings’ opening contest of the season.

The Vikings pushed the go-ahead run across in the top half of the eight when Eric Wentworth led off with a single, and moved to third afte a one-out outfield error. He scored the winner on Brian Graham’s single. “We played well for the first time out, and Olin had a great outing,” said Vikings coach Dave Loomis.

Morris threatened after a leadoff walk in the eighth to Travis Cornier. A stolen base and groundout moved Cornier to third, but he was thrown out in a rundown after a missed bunt attempt. “I’m not sure exactly what happened on that play,” Loomis said.

Olin allowed just four hits and struck out 14, while walking four. Wentworth led with two hits for OV, who play at Stockbridge Valley today.
