GREENE – Cook Park could get some care and attention, finally. Government leaders are considering investing $15,000 in the 116-acre, county-owned seasonal camping park located just south of the Town of Greene.

Plans include new roads, trail paths, bridges, drinking water fountains and refurbishing the 22-acre pond, pavilion and campsites. As requested by members of the Agriculture, Buildings and Grounds Committee last month, county Youth Bureau Director Kathryn J. Clemens is spearheading the project.

“Kathy is an untapped resource for this. She does a tremendous job with youth programming and has degrees in recreation and business. She’ll be able to pull the available funding streams and manpower together for this,” said Linda Natoli, R-City of Norwich. Natoli’s Planning & Economic Development Committee will consider Clemens’ proposal next week.

Though he has often suggested giving away or selling Cook Park in the past, Preston Supervisor Peter C. Flanagan made the motion to push the Clemens’ proposal for Cook Park through to Planning. Only the supervisor from Pharsalia opposed it.
