MOUNT UPTON – The 86th Chenango County Firemen’s Convention, as well as the centennial celebration for the Borden Hose Company, will begin with a banquet at 5:30 p.m. June 20 in Mt. Upton.
Festivities will continue through Saturday with a firematics show at about 1 p.m. A large barbecue will take place all day. A plaque dedication will be held, as well as a parade at 5:30 p.m.
“There will be displays and seminars covering the grounds,” said volunteer firefighter Jim Percival, who has been with the Borden Hose Co. for the past 62 years. A mill stone, he said, will be dedicated to the firemen of the Mt. Upton and Rockdale stations, past, present and future.
Borden Hose Co. members say they are thrilled to be able to join their centennial efforts with the annual convention, and the weekend is expected to befun intertwined with education on fire safety. It will also be a time to remember the history of the department, officials say.
“We are looking for participants from every department throughout the county to carry their flag or the American flag and march in the parade. We want all the departments from the county represented,” said Percival.
