AFTON – The 119th Afton Fair opens at 4 p.m. today at the fairgrounds on state Rt. 41 and runs until Sunday.
Today is “Community Appreciation Day,” and will feature a community hymn-sing at 4 p.m. and a car show at 6 p.m. Admission is free; rides are pay one price ($12).
General admission all week is $6 per day for ages 18 and up, $3 for ages 13 through 17 and free for anyone 12 and under. Season passes are $15.
Special events throughout the week include two nights of demolition derby, youth dairy shows, horse shows, harness racing, bull riding, bike giveaways, wood carving demonstrations, antique and garden tractor pulls, a Junior Idol Contest, and Fireman’s Parade (7 p.m. Wednesday).
This year’s entertainment headliner is country singer Ashton Shepherd (9 p.m. Thursday), an up-and-coming MCA Nashville recording artist from Alabama. In all there are 11 musical acts, including locals favorites Route 66 (6 p.m. Friday) and Skyline featuring Cassidy Lynn (8 p.m. Thursday).
Nearly two-dozen food, technology and information vendors will be on-hand.
The fair is organized by the Afton Driving Park and Agricultural Association, Inc.
