SHERBURNE – Investigation into the weekend accident that took the life of one Sherburne resident and left another in critical condition is continuing, according to a statement finally issued yesterday by New York State Police Troop C.
The single-car crash occurred in the early morning on Saturday, July 5 on State Route 80 in the Town of Sherburne. The driver, Shawn A. Maxson, 20, and passenger Dustin York, 17, were traveling westbound on State Route 80, east of the Village of Sherburne. Maxson reportedly lost control of the 1997 Subaru he was driving. According to the State Police press release, the vehicle then traveled off the northbound shoulder, striking an earth embankment and overturning numerous times. The accident was reported at 5:24 a.m. The Sherburne Fire Department and Mercy Flight Helicopter responded to the scene.
