BID’s summer music series kicks off tomorrow

NORWICH – The Norwich Business Improvement District has been providing lunchtime entertainment with its summer concert series for many years, but this year, the BID is teaming up with the Norwich Farmers’ Market to provide an extra week of concerts and an opportunity to shop for some local produce at the same time.

This year’s “Lunchtime Live” concert series will include five weekly performances, beginning on Wednesday. “We added an extra week to the schedule this year,” BID Executive Director Pegi LoPresti said, explaining the people at the Farmers’ Market enjoyed having the performers on Wednesdays and offered money to help the BID add an extra week to the schedule.

“We’ve always had a good rapport with the BID and we see more customers during the concerts, so we decided to take some of our advertising money and put it toward an extra week,” said Norwich Farmers’ Market President Ellen Adams. “It’s good for Norwich. It’s good for the customers and it gives us clients.”

The Farmers’ Market opens at 8 a.m. on Wednesdays and will stay open until the end of the concerts. Concerts begin at noon and go until approximately 1 p.m.

Adams said the market offers more than just local produce. Baked goods, honey, maple syrup and fresh cut flowers are also available. “Come to the Farmers’ Market, buy fresh produce, grown locally and support your local growers,” Adams said. The market will be open weekly in East Side Park through October.
