CHENANGO COUNTY – The kick off to the Chenango United Way’s 2008 campaign is only a month away, and with increases in fuel prices and the costs of living, representatives say United Way funding is more important than ever.
On Saturday, Sept. 27, the CUW will kick off campaign season with their Second Annual Day of Caring. The Day of Caring brings non-profit agencies and local community members together over volunteer projects. According to Campaign Director Victoria Mitchell, the CUW has already received 16 project requests from non-profit agencies. Project requests were accepted from any non-profit agency, since any non-profit agency can request CUW funding. The project include activities like working at a soup kitchen, cleaning, painting, gardening, distributing food or working at a car wash. “We have a variety of jobs to fit anybody’s needs and skills,” Mitchell said.
With so many projects requested, Mitchell said the organization is going to need approximately 90 volunteers to complete the work. “We’re calling on anyone who wants to volunteer,” Mitchell said. Last year, 95 individuals donated their time at 11 work sites for the Day of Caring.
