SHERBURNE – Local runners dominated the individual honors, while Oriskany walked away with team titles in boys and girls at the 26th Annual S-E Invitational cross country meet Saturday afternoon.
The Marauders girls, who last laid claim to the top individual spot in 2004, went one-two with Jasmine Huff nipping teammate Sofeia Eddy by less than a second. Huff finished the 3.1-mile course in 22:01.08 and Eddy timed a 22:01.89. “Jasmine felt strong Saturday. She and Sofeia have battled it out, and it’s a friendly rivalry in my opinion,” said S-E co-head coach Anne Geary. It was good for the program.”
Norwich senior Steven Spittler, bidding for a spot on the Section IV state meet team, continued his strong season with a comfortable win on the boys’ side. Spittler crossed the finish line in 17 minutes, 17 seconds, to top his next-best rival by 51 seconds. “Steven’s an awesome runner, and it was nice to have Norwich back at our meet,” Geary said.
Among S-E’s boys, Noah Huff led the contingent finishing fourth out of 33 runners in 18:47. “I felt our boys ran a solid race, and overall we’re happy with the results,” Geary said.
Other top local finishers for the girls were Katrina Daoud of Norwich (4th, 22:51), and Sarah Spittler of Norwich (9th, 24:27)
Sherburne-Earlville faces Waterville Wednesday.
