NEW BERLIN – Erie Community College spoiled Milford Academy’s homecoming weekend two years ago and used a blocked kick to pull out a close win in 2007. The Falcons rectified those defeats with a 34-28 Homecoming victory Saturday at Fish Field in New Berlin.
Down to Erie 15-14 at halftime, the Falcons put three touchdowns on the board in the third quarter to take command. Cam Artis-Payne had a three-yard TD for the go-ahead score, Jerome Larue added a 20-yard scoring jaunt, and Will Figueroa hauled in a 15-yard TD pass from Jawad Yatim to make it a 34-15 game.
“We came out flat for homecoming,” said Milford Academy head coach Bill Chaplick. “In the third quarter, we came out and played our type of football.”
Artis-Payne rushed for 150 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns, the first an 18-yard scamper with 43 seconds left in the first half to draw the Falcons within 15-14.
Matthew Brown returned a punt 44 yards for Milford Academy’s first score to tie the game at seven-apiece.
Larue added 77 rushing yards, and Yatim finished 6-for-10 for 54 yards. Steve Holness led Milford’s defense with 11 tackles, and Bran Hampton added 10 tackles. Jermaine Robinson finished with two interceptions.
Milford Academy hosts the Walter Reed Military Hospital team, Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. at Fish Field.
