Norwich 36, Deposit-Hancock 33

NORWICH – Chris Symonds made weight — the minimum for heavyweight – to earn what proved a critical forfeit for Norwich in Tuesday’s dual meet victory over Deposit-Hancock.

Symonds packed on the necessary pounds to reach the 215-pound minimum of 180 pounds. “Tonight was a great team win, and Symonds getting that forfeit for us was huge,” said Norwich coach Terry Hagenbuch. “If he didn’t make weight, it would have been a no-match at 215, and we would have lost by three.”

Norwich rolled early getting wins from Tanner Cummings (103), Cameron Miller (112), and Mike Hull (119) to build a 21-0 lead. NHS youngsters Cameron Turner (140) and Morgan Crawford (145) added key victories to nearly clinch the match, and Eli Hodack’s pin at 160 pounds wrapped up the win.

Norwich (2-0) hosts powerhouse Greene on Thursday.
