New deputy clerk, assessor in Guilford; justice resigns

GUILFORD – The Guilford Town Council appointed a new deputy town clerk and its first sole appointed assessor Wednesday night. They also announced the planned departures of both the current town clerk and one of the town’s two justices.

In the first item of new business, the board approved the appointment of Guilford resident Gail Hoffman as the town’s deputy town clerk. Hoffman is an accountant by trade and runs her own small business, GH Accounting.

“Welcome aboard,” said Town Supervisor Al Doyle.

Hoffman’s appointment as deputy will allow her to be trained to assume the role of town clerk. Current Town Clerk Barbara Strier has announced she will be stepping down from her post in the spring to accept a position with the county, as second deputy treasurer.

The board also approved the appointment of the town’s first appointed assessor. Susan McIntyre of Mt. Upton has been hired for the position. Doyle said that McIntyre, who has served on the town’s board of assessors since 2007, was the only one of four applicants for the position who had any previous assessing experience.
