NORWICH – The Norwich Police Department is investigating a stabbing that took place Saturday morning after a man came to the police station with two stab wounds to his chest.
Jacob A. Wilkes, 24, Sherburne, drove himself to the city police station seeking aid at about 7 a.m. Saturday, claiming he had been stabbed at an apartment at 16 Sheldon St. an hour earlier.
The Norwich Fire Department ambulance transported Wilkes to Chenango Memorial Hospital, where he was taken into surgery.
Police said Wilkes had been stabbed twice in the chest with an unidentified object right below his sternum. “We’ve investigated stab wounds in the past. This was a serious injury, but he was able to receive immediate medical attention. We did not believe the wound to be life-threatening from our past experiences, but again this was very serious,” said Norwich Police Chief Joseph Angelino.
