Greene 68, Trumansburg 34
GREENE – Greene dominated the end of the first half and the early stages of the third stanza to roll past Trumansburg in its holiday tournament opener.
Scott Gorton scored eight points over the final 2 1/2 minutes of the first half – six coming on three-pointers – and Gorton teamed up with Dustin Turner on a 16-5 run to start the third quarter splitting 10 points evenly. “We got hot late in the first half, and it carried over to the second half,” said Greene coach Jeff Paske. “It was good to see us diving on the floor for loose balls, and we took three charges. We did all the little things well.”
Trumansburg struggled from the field against the Trojans’ pressure defense shooting 14-for-53 (26 percent) overall. Gorton grabbed nine rebounds to go with his 18 points, Turner had 17 points, eight caroms, and four blocks, and Brendan Kinne came off the bench to score nine points. “I thought this game would be much closer, but I’ll take this any day,” Paske said.
Greene faces Chenango Forks tonight at 7 p.m.
