Oxford 61, Greene 45
Seton Catholic Central 87, Greene 44
GREENE – Oxford went on a 14-0 run in the second quarter to grab a double-digit lead and beat the Trojans on Friday.
Alex Champlin and Tom Gould combined for 15 of the Blackhawks’ 21 points in the second stanza in creating a 36-19 lead. “They executed well on offense, and defensively we gave up too many easy shots,” said Greene coach Jeff Paske.
Greene started the third quarter strong closing the gap to 40-33. The Blackhawks (5-3) regained control finishing the quarter with six straight points.
Champlin led with 20 points, Brett Trask had a season-high 14 points, and Gould 12.
Dan Carlin and Booker Davis had 14 points apiece for Greene (5-3).
The Trojans hung tight with Seton Catholic Central through most of the first half.
The Saints’ Matt Meier hit a three-pointer at the end of the first quarter to open a 24-16 lead. Seton maintained a 31-27 lead late in the half, but closed on a 15-3 spurt, again capped by a Meier three ball.
The Saints were absolutely perfect in the third quarter scoring 29 points on 12-for-12 shooting – three of those hoops were three-pointers. “They did a good job in transition and we didn’t get back well on defense,” Paske said.
