NORWICH – Norwich held Whitney Point scoreless over an 8-minute, 45-second stretch of the first half to take control of Monday’s non-divisional game at Norwich High School.
Whitney Point’s Kelsey Ticknor hit a set shot from 15 feet with 3:48 left in the first quarter to cut Norwich’s lead to 7-6. Hannah Runyon’s basket in the paint started a 14-0 spurt that pushed the lead to 15 points. Runyon and Adrienne Sharpe had a four points apiece, and five different Tornado players scored during the salvo.
Norwich extended the lead to 28-11 at halftime with Sharpe scoring nine of her team-high 11 points. Sharpe added 10 rebounds, Runyon 10 points, while Tatyana Ithier and Michelle Testani scored nine apiece. Elisha Eddy and Bryn Loomis added balance splitting 16 points down the middle.
“We shot the ball better tonight and had balanced scoring,” said Norwich coach Krista Porter, whose club improved to 8-10 overall. “When the shots go in, it makes the game a lot easier.”
Eddy added nine rebounds, Ithier dished out a team-high six assists, and Loomis led with three steals.
Norwich hosts Windsor Friday with a tentative 5:30 p.m. junior varsity start.
