NEW BERLIN – Milford Academy’s best advertisement may well be the prominent alumni who will likely be high-level NFL draft picks this spring.
Shonn Greene, University of Iowa’s workhorse running back, won the prestigious Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top running back. As a junior, Greene rushed for at least 100 yards in every game. Before a national audience on New Year’s Day, Greene gained 121 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Hawkeyes to a 31-10 win over South Carolina in the Outback Bowl.
Greene intimated after the contest that he would likely turn pro, and he confirmed that assertion last month.
LeSean McCoy, after two standout seasons as a running back at Pittsburgh, also announced his intention to enter the NFL Draft. McCoy attended Milford Academy three years ago, and was in the same Falcons class as University of Miami running back Graig Cooper. Cooper will return to the Hurricanes for his senior season, and may take the natural handoff as top collegiate running back from Greene.
