NORWICH – Norwich teachers could have a new contract in place as early as tomorrow, according to a teacher’s union official.
The Norwich Educators Organization made the announcement late Monday that its membership had approved a tentative agreement reached by the Norwich Educators Organization and the district by an overwhelming majority. Now only the board of education’s stamp of approval is needed before the contract can go into effect.
“If it’s passed tonight, then tomorrow it’s good,” explained Erika Kwasnik, who serves as first vice president of the Norwich Educators Organization.
Despite a call for an eleventh hour re-vote yesterday, the result was “decisive,” said Kwasnik, with 143 members voting for the contract and 33 opposed. Four votes were deemed invalid and were not counted.
