OXFORD – Residents at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford have a new supply of craft materials and games thanks to a donation made by the Go-Won-Go chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
“We hope that the items bring a little cheer to our vets. They are given in gratitude for all they have done for us in America,” read a letter presented to Activities Director Alan Hopson by representatives from the Greene-based chapter.
According to Lorena Auwarter of Oxford, who serves as the group’s registrar, the items donated were comprised of new and gently-used items requested by the activities department.
The donation is part of a new effort by the local DAR chapter to “become more heavily involved in the community,” Auwarter said. The group is also currently engaged in making prayer cloths that will be sent to active duty military personnel stationed overseas.
