Downed Plane Made Last Stop In Norwich

WEST EATON – New York State Police have identified the 56-year-old Canadian pilot who died after his plane crashed in the Town of West Eaton, Monday.

Troopers said Bernard LaFerriere of Quebec died after his plane crashed in a heavily wooded area near Westcott Road. They said a man riding an all-terrain vehicle on his property found the wreckage Tuesday afternoon and called police.

LaFerriere departed the Norwich Lt. Warren Eaton Airport Monday afternoon and never arrived at his destination.

Airport Manager Jamie Baciuska said the small “experimental plane,” was an Explorer Ecofyler and was not typically not mass produced.
