Police: Canadian Pilot Flew Ultralight Plane

EATON, N.Y. (AP) — The owner of a Canadian aircraft company was returning from marketing his new lightweight sport plane in Florida when he crashed and died in rural upstate New York, police said Wednesday.

Bernard Laferriere, 56, of St. Gerard-Des-Laurentides, Quebec, left the airport in Norwich in Chenango County on Monday afternoon after waiting for gusty winds to subside, state police said. A landowner on an all-terrain vehicle found Larerriere’s demolished plane Tuesday afternoon in woods in neighboring Madison County, about 30 miles southeast of Syracuse.
