NORWICH – A showcase of Chenango County’s non-profit and charity organizations will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in East Park in downtown Norwich on Saturday.
“I wanted to be able to have an event where we could bring all of these groups together,” said organizer Scott Sutton. The goal of the event is to promote the organizations and to provide education about what each of the organizations do. “My goal was to bring these organizations together and to let the public know who they are and what they do in a community fair type atmosphere,” Sutton said.
The idea for the event was conceived when the Norwich Business Improvement District and the Friends of the Park sent a letter to community members asking if anyone had an idea for an event to be held in the park the day after the BID’s Annual Dinner. On Friday night, the BID and the Friends of the Park will hold their annual fundraiser and dinner, but BID Executive Director Pegi LoPresti explained she wanted to find an event or organization to utilize the tent rented for the event throughout the weekend.
“My wife Sharon came up with the idea,” Sutton said. “She said we should have a community fair. The idea has grown since then.”
LoPresti said the BID liked Sutton’s idea, but could not organize another event, so Sutton stepped up to the plate and took on the lead role.
