G-MU 10, Hancock 3
HANCOCK – G-MU avenged a loss to the last team to defeat it, and moved into the Section IV, Class D semifinals with a victory at Hancock Saturday.
Nate Sloan’s two-run homer in the fourth inning broke a 3-3 tie. G-MU tacked on four more in the fifth highlighted by Andrew Delmar’s two-run single to score Cody Hall and Tyler Wildfeir. “We’ve avenged two of our three losses, and we hope to get a chance to avenge the third (against Afton), or at least have a chance to play for a championship,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “We’re playing in June, and that’s what we were hoping for.”
Hall and Wildfeir hit back-to-back doubles in the opening inning, and Delmar followed with an RBI single putting the Raiders in front early
Hall had three hits in the game, and pitched a complete-game victory. Wildfeir added two hits, and Delmar drove in four runs.
The Raiders (18-3), winners of 10 straight games, play at top-seeded South Kortright on Tuesday. G-MU has beaten the Rams the last two meetings in previous seasons. “They won a sectional soccer title and a state title in basketball this year, so we know they have some good kids over there,” Johnson said. “It should be a good one.”
