NORWICH – The condition of the roof at City Hall has been an issue for some time, but after receiving an evaluation from Delaware Engineering, its replacement may be put off for one more year.

In April, the city discussed going out to bid for the replacement of the roof. Although repairs had been done in 2008, Department of Public Works Superintendent Carl Ivarson said a complete replacement was necessary.

At the May meeting of the Finance / Personnel Committee, Ivarson said Delaware Engineering would prepare bid specifications for the repair of the roof at a cost of $21,000. The bid was to include either the replacement of the historic building’s copper flashing or the use of alternate materials. While the city had been discussing the possibility of pursuing other repairs at city hall, the roof was the priority. “The proposed bid for city hall repairs is strictly for the roof, which has a higher priority and greater urgency than the other items,” said Director of Finance William Roberts at the time.
