Library art contest to help raise money for building project

OXFORD – The organizers of an all-ages art contest at the Oxford Memorial Library want to showcase the artistic talents of local residents and raise money for the library building project at the same time.

The contest will start like any other, with community members submitting original works of art in a variety of different media. But there is a twist: All entrants are asked to submit at least one piece of art featuring the library itself, whether it be a drawing, painting or photograph. Those pieces will be displayed at 6 On The Square and, with the artist’s consent, will be auctioned off at a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Oxford Memorial Library Building Fund.

“Not only will it be a great way to showcase the creativity of our community, but it is it a great opportunity for fund raising for the library building fund,” said Library Clerk Naomi Cronk, who has spearheaded the effort.

According to Cronk, submissions will be accepted at the library until 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7. Individuals are free to submit as many entries as they like. Entry forms may be picked up at the library. Submission categories include age 6 to 10, 11 to 15 and 16 to adult. Children age 5 and under may also participate, by either submitting a drawing or coloring a pre-printed page available at the library.
